'Monty Python' Star Mourns the Loss of Creator Terry Jones

'Monty Pyhton' creator Terry Jones passed away on Tuesday, January 21st, 2020 after a longstanding battle with dementia. Monty Python is one of the most iconic comedy teams of all time. The group initially just started as an average British sketch team. They rose to fame after starring in a TV show of the same name featuring their sketches. Their show premiered in 1969 and ran periodically until 2014. Other team members include Michael Palin, Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam and Eric Idle.

Michael Palin took the time to remember Jones as his comedy partner and co-collaborator. He gave a moving tribute to BBC.

"He was far more than one of the funniest writer-performers of his generation, he was the complete Renaissance comedian - writer, director, presenter, historian, brilliant children's author, and the warmest, most wonderful company you could wish to have," he said.

Jones had been struggling with dementia since 2015. According to [PopCulture,] ( he suffered from a unique form of dementia called frontotemporal dementia.


Jones passed away at 77 years old with his wife Ana at his bedside.

"We have all lost a kind, funny, warm, creative and truly loving man whose uncompromising individuality, relentless intellect and extraordinary humor has given pleasure to countless millions across six decades," his family said in a statement confirming his death to Metro. "His work with Monty Python, his books, films, television programs, poems and other work will live on forever, a fitting legacy to a true polymath."


Fans took to Twitter to mourn the loss of the beloved comedian.

"So very sad to hear the passing of Founding member of Monty python [Terry Jones] he brought so much happiness joy and silliness to this world and he will be missed," one fan tweeted. "Thank you Terry."

"Such sad news," wrote another. "A wonderfully skilled, talented, witty and deliciously silly writer, performer and comedian, leaving a massive legacy of laughter and joy in the world for us to remember him by. Thank you sir..."


"OH NO! Farewell, [Terry Jones], you wonderfully silly man," a third wrote mournfully. "I loved your love for medieval history and Holy Grail is a masterpiece. Gutted you’re no longer with us."

"I just read that [Terry Jones] has died and that is just so incredibly sad," shared another user. "Not only was his work as a Python sheer genius, but his Medieval lives series has also brought history to life for so many of my students. An absolute loss to us all."
