There’s probably never a good time to be served with divorce papers. Unless you also wanted a divorce, but were too scared to go through the process! Anyone, it looks like Dr. Dre can add the story about being served with divorce papers at his grandmother’s funeral to the list of troubles that a long line of ex’s and mistresses have left him. TMZ is reporting that the rap mogul was literally standing next to the casket when he was served the divorce papers.
Must’ve Been Quite A Seen
At this point there are conflicting stories about exactly how the serving took place. With some people claiming, as we mentioned, that Dre was literally standing beside the casket when he was served. Other reports indicate that the ordeal took place in the cemetery parking lot. In any case coming back from a funeral with divorce papers isn’t necessarily something that Dre had in mind. On the other hand, that shows some commitment to the craft from the person who actually served him the papers.
Is That Even Legal?
This whole issue brings up a ton of questions about the process of being served papers. The problem with the whole situation is that the line between what a server can or can’t do isn’t really clear in many states. For example, you can’t be harassed, threatened or stalk, in order to be served papers. The server, though, is allowed to wait outside of your home until you return. Isn’t that technically stalking? As far as public places go they are for the most part fair game to be served papers.
The Current State of The Legal Situation
Isn’t Dr. Dre already divorced? What’s this about him getting served divorce papers again? Technically yes, Dr. Dre is officially divorced. The thing is, the legal battle rages on. His ex Nicole Young is set to receive almost 300k a month in spousal support. Why is Dre still being harassed by the court? This particularly instance that he was served papers over on Monday at his grandmother’s funeral is an issue about attorney fee payments. Dr. Dre still owes his ex some attorney fees.
No End In Sight To Those Payments
Dr. Dre’s net worth is valued at around 800 million. Even though that’s the case having to pony up almost 300k in cash a month seems like a tall task. The biggest issue for Dre is that he’ll potentially never have to stop making these payments to Young. There are only 2 ways in which, he could potentially free himself from those payments. She would have to get remarried, or start living with someone else. The other way to stop those payments is for Dre to go through the court again. With some type of argument that he can no longer pay that amount!
