Taylor Swift revealed today that her mother, Andrea Swift, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.

The tumor was found while Andrea was undergoing treatment for her second round of cancer. Taylor took to Tumblr to speak about her mother's original diagnosis.

"This is something my family and I thought you should know about now," Taylor shared in April 2015. She asked that - for Christmas (assumingly in 2014) - that one of her mother's gifts to her was to get a thorough medical scanning.

"She agreed, and went in to get checked. There were no red flags and she felt perfectly fine, but she did it just to get me and my brother off her case about it. The results came in, and I'm saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer," Swift's post read.

There was never really an update on Andrea's condition after the initial announcement. This all changed during an early 2019 interview with Elle, when Swift revealed that her mother's cancer had returned.

In a guest article titled "30 Things I Learned Before Turning 30," the then 29-year-old said that she has learned how to handle serious illnesses within her family - even saying that her father has also had his own battle with cancer.

"It’s taught me that there are real problems and then there’s everything else," she continued. "My mom’s cancer is a real problem. I used to be so anxious about daily ups and downs. I give all of my worry, stress, and prayers to real problems now."

Today's revelation of brain cancer came through an interview with Variety. The main subject at hand was Swift's forthcoming Netflix documentary, titled "Taylor Swift: Miss Americana," which has the main spot at the opening night of Sundance Film Festival on January 23rd.

"While she was going through [cancer] treatment, they found a brain tumor. And the symptoms of what a person goes through when they have a brain tumor is nothing like what we’ve ever been through with her cancer before. So it’s just been a really hard time for us as a family.”

Although anything else in the interview pales in comparison to her mom's recent health findings, Swift continues on like the pro that she is. She further discussed her admiration for British actress Jameela Jalil's open activism for body image positivity.

"Women are held to such a ridiculous standard of beauty, and we’re seeing so much on social media that makes us feel like we are less than, or we’re not what we should be," Swift said. "You kind of need a mantra to repeat in your head when you start to have unhealthy thoughts. I swear the way Jameela speaks is like lyrics — it gets stuck in my head and it calms me down."

It's speculated that the news of Andrea's tumor came during the production of her daughter's documentary, which will debut to the public on January 31st.
