Serena Williams Shuts Down Reporter After Meghan Markle Question: 'But Good Try'

By Jeff Mazzeo

Serena Williams is no fool and served one reporter's question about Meghan Markle right back at him during a post-match press conference at the Australian Open on Monday.

The tennis icon defeated Anastasia Potapova in the first round and while some questions from the media surrounded her play and the air quality due to the wildfires, one reporter decided to ask about Serena's good friend Meghan. Willaims and Markle have been close for years and it is well documented that Prince Harry and her are avid tennis fans.

The reporters and Serena all got a laugh after her response to the royal question.

"Your good friend, Meghan Markle, who attended your last two slams, and Harry, have taken a move, a stance that many people think is extraordinary and historic. What are your feelings about that? Have you spoken to her?" New York Times reporter, Ben Rothenberg asked.

Serena did not take the bait at all.

"Yeah. I have absolutely no comments on anything with that. But good try. You tried. You did good."

Meghan and Harry have dominated the news for the past few weeks after announcing that they plan to step away from their royal duties and move to Canada. There is obviously some bad blood and between the couple and Queen Elizabeth II.

Last week, the Queen released a statement that said Harry and Meghan will be stripped of their royal titles and they will have to repay the money that was used to fix up Frogmore Cottage home in Windsor, England. She also thanked them for their years of service but not many people are convinced that everything is hunky-dory.

"I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across this country, the Commonwealth and beyond, and am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family," the Queen said. "It is my whole family’s hope that today’s agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life."
