Meghan McCain has revealed why she quit The view and, the reason is pretty obvious. She felt her self-esteem was taking a hit after her co-stars Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar treated her poorly for having a conservative point of view.
McCain’s confession comes from her upcoming audiobook, “Bad Republican” where she shares that her time on the show got increasingly worst over the years. “You can’t imagine how it messes with your self-esteem working in an environment where the worst thing you can be in the world is a Republican during the Trump years.”
Republican In Trumps Era

In the excerpts obtained by Variety, the host shared that as things got worse with the country, her co-hosts also got worse towards her. “As the country got worse under Trump, the treatment from Whoopi, Joy, and some of the staff grew meaner and less forgiving.” She also accused Goldberg, Behar, and the other staff of being so limited that they possibly only knew one republican… her.

“It was as if I had become an avatar for everything they hated about the president. It felt like the co-hosts and staff only knew one Republican — me — and took out all their anger on me, even though I didn’t even vote for Trump.”

Meghan Vs. Everybody

While the new mom was on the show, fans were subjected to almost weekly heated arguments between herself and her co-hosts. Sometimes the disagreements would spill over into guest hosts like Anna Navarro.
Regardless, it was understood that on a show like The View, there are going to be a lot of disagreements. Just before exiting the show, McCain was pushed by her co-stars to answer why she was still a republican after the lies Trump spouted about her late father John McCain.
“After my dad died, I heard Joy had told others at ‘The View’ that she couldn’t understand how I could still defend Republicans after everything Trump had done to me.?”
As For Whoopi…

McCain also pointed out that she had to leave eventually because no matter what she did, Goldberg is such an icon, that her opinion will never truly be heard. “The thing about Whoopi, though, is that she yields so much power in culture and television, and once she turns on you, it can create unfathomable tension at the table.”
She noted that the EGOT holder’s open hate for her had finally taken its toll. “I found her open disdain for me more and more difficult to manage as the years went on and it became more frequent,’ she wrote. “Occasionally, if the show’s political discourse veered into territory that she found disagreeable, Whoopi would cut me off, sometimes harshly.”
Why Now?

McCain shared that after giving birth to her daughter Liberty in 2020, she had postpartum depression. So needless to say, those “small verbal attacks”, and “purposeful hostility” could no longer be tolerated. “As I was dealing with my own emotions, I couldn’t also navigate the idea that I was hated and felt hated at a toxic work environment.”

The icing on the cake was when Behar turned a lighthearted joke into a mean girl moment. “To make light of things and to ease the tension, I said, ‘Joy, you missed me so much when I was on maternity leave! You missed fighting with me!’” to which the 79-year-old responded.
“’I did not,” paused for a hot second and said it again, this time with more intent. “I did not miss you. Zero.’” She admitted that as soon as they got a commercial break, she cried which triggered the nursing mom to lactate and the whole experience was even more upsetting for her.

“That experience of crying and leaking and trying to pull it together in seconds so I could go back on-air with women who appeared to hate me was an intensely heartbreaking experience,” she shared.
“This s–t isn’t worth this. Nothing in life is worth this.”
