Awkwafina's Coming Projects After Awards Season

Awkafina has set herself apart from other entertainers, having starred in blockbuster successes like "Ocean's 8" and "Crazy Rich Asians". Plus her incredible performance in "The Farewell" earned her a Golden Globe win for best actress in a motion picture.

Now awards season is over for the "The Farewell", the Oscars snubbing the entire film and cast. However, there's no worries because Awkafina's moving on to her next projects. If you can't join 'em, then make more amazing art.

Awkwafina is Nora From Queens

Set to premiere on comedy central January 20, 2020, Awkafina's building her empire with a television series. She plays a fictionalized version of herself named Nora Lum who is navigating adulthood in New York City's Flushing. Helping her out, she's living with her father and grandmother.

Awkwafina is hilarious, most of her rap discography inspired by a comedy and absurdism. Not to mention her past roles demonstrate she has great comedic timing and instinct. The series is bound to be a hit.

The Spongebob Movie: Sponge On The Run

Joining the veteran cast of "Spongebob Squarepants" Awkwafina joins Keanu Reeves in the upcoming "The Spongebob Movie: Sponge On The Run". Her character has not been named yet, most likely a surprise to not spoil the movie in marketing.

Spongebob Squarepants is a cultural monolith for Millenials, and her involvement is nothing short of historical. Not to mention, her choices for films are thoughtful and not always oriented by money, but instead quality. Whatever her role, it's sure to be memorable.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

The highly anticipated Marvel installation of "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" is the first with a majority Asian cast and leads. Her role in the film is also unknown, still too early in production to reveal all the characters and cast. However, her being one of few to be cast first is an honor when it comes to the Marvel franchise.

If the trajectory of the original Marvel heroes' career's tells anything, it's that this will lead to many more opportunities for Awkwafina.

Raya And The Last Dragon

Jumpin on the Disney bandwagon, Awkafina is set to star in Walt Disney Animation Studio's "Raya And The Last Dragon". All that's known of the film so far is that it's an epic fantasy adventure with southeast Asian themes.

Cooler still, Awkwafina voices Sisu, a dragon who can turn into a human and is probably the main conflict of the story. Once again, Awkafina is living everybody's dream to play a Disney character, and she's one of the leading roles.
