Keith Richards Used Love Letters Written In Blood To Woo His Wife

"I guess he really loved the color red," Patti Hansen said.
Love makes people do the most darn things. Rolling Stones rockstar guitarist of the '80s and '90s, Keith Richards was not spared from cupid's love arrow when he first met his wife of over two decades. And the couple's love story is certainly one for the movies.
It was love at first fight. Richards revealed he was utterly lovestruck when he laid eyes on the American model, Patti Hansen. He was so in love that he put his blood, sweat, and tears into wooing her literally and metaphorically.
The pair have only grown strong from meeting at the studio bar in Manhattan to Hansen showing up at his birthday party.
She unveiled that he sent her tons of love letters written in his blood and pulled so many bizarre stunts to express his love for her. And that began an epic love story.
Richard & Patti's Love Story, How Did They Meet?
In 1979, Hansen and Richards first met at Studio 54 in Manhattan. After the last call, Hansen and her girls needed a drink, so they turned to the legend for a bottle of champagne.
Richards was taken aback when Hansen caught his eye. And, of course, he proved himself a gentleman by getting the ladies the drink they wanted. Then in the twinkle of any eye, Hansen strolled away with the drink without batting an eye or entertaining a conversation.

This reaction made Richards fall even harder for the stunning mystery woman. In his words, "I didn't see her again for a while, but the vision stayed in my mind," he expressed the long-lasting effect of the spark he felt after he saw her.
As fate would have it, they met a few months after at his party. Hansen revealed she only attended because a mutual friend invited her, as she didn't know much about Richards.
Richards Went All Out To Date Hansen
Richards was elated to see her at his birthday party, and in his interview with Vanity Fair, he revealed when they made eye contact, he said to her, "Hello, something's happening to me," in the spur of the moment.
And shortly after, the two began dating after the celebration. Did Hansen feel the same way? Was she waiting on him to make the first move, or was his charm just that good? We can only ask.
Richards was a lover of both his music and art. Hansen told Harper's Bazaar how he always made her mixtapes and sent beautiful collages with pictures of her he got from magazines.
However, some of his efforts were a little nastier. He used to write her love notes in his blood regularly. "It looks awful when it dries," she explained, "but he loves the color red." She often wondered how he got the blood enough to pull such stunts.
Richards' & Pati's Love Life Before Marriage
His audacity and ferocity have defined Richards' six decades in the limelight. The Rolling Stones star is famous for being one of the world's most legendary guitarists and co-founder of one of the world's most iconic bands.
However, for someone exposed to the buzz of being a celebrity, Richards is remarkably mild when it comes to love. He has only been married once and has been in two long-term partnerships. Although rumor had it, he was once involved with "Performance star," Pallenberg.
Hansen was born and raised in Tottenville, Staten Island, as the youngest of six children of Norwegian origin. At 14, she was spotted by photographer Peter Gert and was signed to Wilhelmina Models shortly after.
Before she relocated to Manhattan, where she met her superstar spouse, she managed to keep her love life out of the spotlight. Nevertheless, they got married on his birthday.
Keith Richards & Patti Hansen, The True Happily Ever After
Although Richards' affection tokens were a little bizarre, they worked. According to Vogue, he and Hansen married in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in December 1983 and have been happily married since then. The couple left Manhattan for a more peaceful life in Connecticut.
Despite their rock n roll romance, the celebrity lovers could adopt a "normal" suburban family life. They have two daughters and one grandchild.
Their first daughter, Theodora, was born in 1985, and their second daughter, Alexandra, was born a year later. Richards revealed there was life before Hansen and life after. And he recognized that life with her had gotten him through some of his darkest times.
And for the bloody letters, he revealed she still had all of them kept in a box. Richards refers to them as "the old married couple," who stuck together against all odds.
