Ricky Gervais didn’t pull any punches while mocking Hollywood actors during his Golden Globes monologue, as is usually the case with the comedian. Some critics didn’t appreciate some of the jokes, and thought he went too far. Now, he’s taking to Twitter to explain himself.
I didn't roast Hollywood for being a bunch of liberals. I myself am a liberal. Nothing wrong with that. I roasted them for wearing their liberalism like a medal. I'm such a snowflake, liberal, I can't even really hate them for it. But my job is to take the piss. I did that. 😇 pic.twitter.com/bYwqxiyeKu

Fans hopped into his mentions with their thoughts on his performance. “You are just the breath of fresh air we need. I dont care about politics. Everything you said was spot on. The fact you are labeled as a right wing for saying what you said is a sad reminder of how far left everyone else really is now,” one said.
“Please don’t feel the need to explain. Explaining is just down the road from an apology. You shouldn’t have to tell people jokes are about being funny,” another wrote.
“You did your job with excellence. I’ve always been a fan. I’ve never needed to agree with a comedian to laugh at them. On this particular occasion I just happened to agree with you as well,” someone else said.

On Tuesday, he tweeted another response for the critics. “I always knew that there were morons in the world that took jokes seriously, but I’m surprised that some journalists do. Surely, understanding stuff is pretty fundamental to their job, isn’t it? Just makes it funnier though, I guess,” he said.
And on Monday morning, the day after the Golden Globes, he wrote, “Thanks for all your amazing comments about my Golden Globes monologue. Best reaction ever and that means a lot to me. I had a blast but thank fuck it’s over, so I can get back to my real job of editing #AfterLife2 and touring #SuperNature. Make Jokes, Not War.”
