Chris Hemsworth Donates $1M to Australia Wildlife Relief

Now that wildfires are raging through huge parts of Australia, plenty of celebrities have gotten involved in the relief efforts. Chris Hemsworth, who may currently be the most famous Australian on the planet, is just one of the celebrities whose putting his financial weight and attention on the issue.

On Monday, the actor took to his Instagram to announce that he was donating $1 million to the firefighters that are currently battling the that have spread across and consumed his homeland.

"Hi everyone. Like you, I want to support the fight against the bushfires here in Australia," he wrote in the caption to the post. "My family and I are contributing a million dollars. Hopefully, you guys can chip in too. Every penny counts so whatever you can muster up is greatly appreciated."

For those interested in donating Hemsworth tried to make it as easy as possible. He encouraged all of his millions of fans to chip in whatever money they could spare.

"In my bio I’ve added links to support the fire fighters, organisations and charities who are working flat out to provide support and relief during this devastating and challenging time," Hemsworth continued. "Beyond appreciative to everyone around the world for their well wishes and donations. It really does make a difference, so dig deep! Love ya."

Hemsworth is one of many celebrities who have donated to the cause or brought attention to the climate change-related fires that are currently ravaging the country.

Pink donated $500,000, and Kim Kardashian also implied that she had made a donation. She and Kylie Jenner were actually embroiled in controversy for slightly different reasons related to their efforts to bring attention to the wildlife fires.

"Nothing gets me more heated than to see people think they know what we donated to and to think we have to publicize everything," Kim tweeted after someone suggested that the Kardashians and Jenners had spoken about the fires without putting any money behind it.

Elsewhere, native Australians Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, and Russell Crowe have also been working to chip into relief efforts. Kidman and Urban have joined together to donate $500,000 of their own money, and Russell Crowe has helped raise $400,000 for relief efforts as well.

According to officials, the fires are likely to burn for months to come. What's more, they've already claimed the lives of 25 people and counting. They've also had an enormous environmental impact on the entire nation of Australia.
