Stacey Dash has dropped a bombshell that might be the reason for her odd behavior the past several years well, some of it.
The actress has revealed that she was battling pill addiction, and it was pretty severe over the course of several years.
How Many Pills A Day?
The Clueless actress shared her truth with Dr. Oz on his daytime talk show, The Dr. Oz Show, that aired Oct. 14. “I was taking 18-20 pills a day,” she admitted. The doctor warned her of how dangerous that amount can be even now that she is sober.
Plus, he pointed out the obvious, “18-20 Vicodin a day, that’s expensive!” this prompted Dash to admit that, she lost “everything” thanks to the addiction. The conservative noted that she spent “about five to ten grand” a month on Vicodin.
‘Deep, Darket Secret’
The 54-year-old prefaced her interview with the doctor in a Facebook post on Oct. 13 describing the reveal as her “darkest secret”.
“Tomorrow, I will be sharing my deepest, darkest secret. I thank the Lord for being able to say that I have grown more over the last 5 years than I have in my entire life,” she shared. “I am so blessed to be surrounded by people who have loved and supported me through my most challenging time. Thank you all!”
Dash also shared that her addiction was also rooted in trauma after a former boyfriend beat her so badly that she was left with a broken arm. “He would beat me so bad; I couldn’t get out of bed for two weeks. I couldn’t walk — [he broke] my arm, tied me to the bed for three days.”
The disturbing incident took place when she was in her early twenties, but the actress admitted that she believed she deserved everything happening to her during that time.
Not The Only Bad Relationship
Dash has been in the media a few times for some of her other relationships. In 2020, her then estranged husband Jeffrey Marty filed for annulment accusing the actress of tricking him into marrying her. This was after she had already filed for a divorce.
Just before the divorce filing for this short marriage, Dash was arrested on domestic battery charges after allegedly attacking Marty. The bodycam footage became quite popular and even though, the couple patched things up soon after, it was believed to be pointless as they are no longer together.
What Keeps Her Going
Dash shares with Dr. Oz that she relies heavily on her faith to keep her going. “This has not been easy. There have been days where I’ve spent the entire day on my knees and didn’t move until I felt God fill that hole inside of me.”
Before appearing on the talk show, Dash encouraged her followers to be kind because “you never know who will be able to relate to you and who it can help.” She also urged her followers to, “encourage anyone who has a story they are scared of telling to share it with the world.”
Before signing off, she pushed her followers to share her story with anyone “needing love and light at this moment.”
