Bill Clinton has been hospitalized at the intensive care unit of the University of California Irvine Medical Center.

On Thursday, doctors attending to the former US president told CNN that he was admitted for a urinary tract infection that had entered into his bloodstream.

A joint statement from Dr. Alpesh Amin, chair of medicine at the hospital, and Dr. Lisa Bardack, the ex-president's primary physician, said Clinton was admitted for close monitoring.

The patient was given antibiotics and IV fluids and is under constant monitoring. They added that he was in the ICU for privacy and safety reasons, not for intensive care.

This is not Clinton's first time to be admitted. In 2004, he underwent a quadruple bypass heart surgery. In 2010, he had two stents entered into his open artery.

The hospital doctors and staff told CNN the former Arkansas governor has been up and walking, speaking with staff and family, and in good spirits.

His Famous Intern Got Shady

Monica Lewinsky is famous for many things. She has been a mental health advocate, activist, and TV personality.

However, she is also famous for being Clinton's White House Intern in 1995.

The then President had been rumored to be in an affair with Lewinsky, which he denied until evidence suggested otherwise.

In May, The Blast shared that the 48-year-old, who is very active on Twitter, caused a stir when she answered a tweet.

Someone had asked the former intern about the most high-risk, low-reward thing that she's ever done. She responded with an interesting emoji, alluding to her infamous affair.

Over It!

Lewinsky is on the production team for the latest FX American Crime Story series, "Impeachment," and spoke on her past with Clinton while promoting the program.

The Blast reported in September that, while on the "Today Show," the producer recalled her time as a 22-year-old White House intern.

Lewinsky confirmed that a scene on the show where her character shows a thong to Clinton's was based on actual events, but she was anxious for people to watch it. The 48-year-old said,

"I'm nervous for people to see some of the worst moments of my life and a lot of behavior that I regret" as they were "pretty cringe-worthy."

As to whether she would like to receive an apology from Clinton, Lewinsky said his apology would not help her cope with a 20-year-old incident but might benefit him.

The activist said the former President might heal by apologizing to her, just as she would want to make amends with people she has hurt.
