Nicole Kidman and Other Celebrities Donate to Help Fight Australian Wildfires

Recent wildfires in Australia has caused the destruction of 12.35 million acres and 1,400 homes. 23 people have been confirmed as dead and the wildlife is suffering greatly.

"In recent times, particularly over the course of the balance of this week, we have seen this disaster escalate to an entirely new level," Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison told CBS News, "we are facing another extremely difficult next 24 hours."

In wake of this devastation, celebrities have donated to help the cause.

"Our family’s support, thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the fires all over Australia," Nicole Kidman wrote on her Instagram page. "We are donating $500,000 to the Rural Fire Services who are all doing and giving so much right now."

"The people, animals, and spirit of Australia is so beautifully unique & seeing how much everyone has banded together to help is major especially [Celeste Barber] and everything she's has done to raise funds for her country in this crisis," Jonathan Van Ness wrote in efforts to raise awareness.

The Irwin family has healed and saved about 90,000 animals from perishing in the wildfires with their family animal hospital.

"I am pledging a donation of $500,000 directly to the local fire services that are battling so hard on the frontlines. My heart goes out to our friends and family in Oz."

"This is an immense tragedy for our home country."
