‘Our Idiot Brother’ star Matthew Mindler died by suicide, and the cause of his death was “sodium nitrate toxicity” and the actor’s mother hopes the story will be a wake-up call to others.
The child actor’s death was ruled a suicide by the Lancaster County Medical Examiner’s Office, several months after the actor’s body was found near the campus of his university in Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, Mindler ended his own life, with a chemical you can easily pick up online — and the actor’s mother is hoping the story will be a cautionary tale for other family’s who are dealing with someone who is having issues.
Sodium nitrate is an oxidizing agent, most often used to preserve food and meats like beef jerky. The chemical causes hypotension and limits the flow of oxygen in the body, which in larger doses or extreme cases can result in death.
Matthew Mindler’s Mother Speaks Out On Shocking Death Of Son
Shockingly, the actor’s mother says the young man left a devastating trail leading to the purchase and ingesting of the chemical to end his own life. His mother, Monica, told the media that her son had recent internet searches that turned up he was looking for information on this lethal compound pertaining to suicide. The searches included ways to obtain it, take it, and ultimately end your life with it painlessly.
Unfortunately, Matt’s family had no idea he was searching for a way out or this chemical in particular. Following the discovery of his body near the college, Monica hopes this can serve as a cautionary tale to other families suffering from the same situation. Specifically, his mother wants others to look at warning signs and know that this is a cheap product that can be ordered on Amazon for around $15. The amount delivered to Mindler was enough to kill four people.
Child Actor Suffered From Extreme Anxiety for Years
Leading up to the death, Matthew’s mother said he suffered from severe anxiety for years, but prior to his suicide appeared to be loving his first week in college. She told investigators she kept in constant contact with him during the first few days — and said her son met with an advisor about starting up a campus computer/programming club on campus and had an upcoming job interview with the IT department. In other words, she had no idea how much he was suffering.
As we reported, Matthew was initially reported missing in late August after disappearing from his dorm room at Millersville University, where he was a freshman. The actor’s body was found a few days later in Manor Township, which is near the college’s campus. Mindler’s death was confirmed by Millersville President — Daniel A. Wubah — who issued a statement following the tragic event.
‘Our Idiot Brother’ Star’s College President Breaks Silence On Tragic Death
“This is a time of grief for the family, our campus, and the community. I ask that the campus community come together to support each other, and our students, during this difficult time,” he wrote.
As you know, Matthew was a child actor who hadn’t shown up on the big screen in years. Along with ‘My Idiot Brother’ he was well known for his acting in ‘Chad: An American Boy’ and ‘As the World Turns.’
