The world of boxing is filled with equal parts glamour and grit as men, and women, sacrifice their bodies to amass fame and fortune as leaders of the sport. And it has honestly always been the type of sport that has afforded the champions access to wealth, prestige and idol worship as they enter the ring and let their fists do the talking. For decades there has been a long list of athletes who have left their mark on the boxing world, and their names still bring waves of praise to this day.

Of course the heavy hitters who immediately come to mind are Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Jr and of course the Greatest Of All Time Muhammad Ali. He was the embodiment of a champion and a humanitarian, and the level of respect he's garnered from new boxers like Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, Deontay Wilder and others can be seen in the way they fight. Ali truly was a game changer. Other boxers have followed in his footsteps and one of them, welterweight boxer Errol Spence Jr., is also quickly making a name for himself.

According to Wikipedia at just under thirty years of age Spence Jr has accomplished quite a few accolades that should definitely not be denied in the world of championship boxing.

As of December 2019, Spence is ranked as the world's fourth best active boxer, pound for pound, by BoxRec, sixth by The Ring magazine[4] and ninth by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board (TBRB). He is also ranked as the world's best active welterweight by The Ring[5] the TBRB[6] and second by BoxRec.[7] He has a knockout-to-win ratio of 80.8%.

Accolades aside last year Spence Jr. was involved in a devastating car crash that he luckily walked away from with his life. However, TMZ is now reporting new evidence discovered at the crash site.

The police body cam video shows responding officers surprised over a firearm they found at the scene -- which they note is a pretty expensive weapon. You can hear the cops talking about the gun ... with one of the officers saying jokingly, "It's only a $1,000 gun!" Errol was not hit with any legal issues over the weapon because a spokesperson for the Dallas Police Dept. tells us, essentially officers couldn't link it to the boxer.

And that's not all.

Spence was immediately transported to a nearby hospital where investigators rushed to get a blood sample because they suspected Spence had been driving under the influence of alcohol. Obviously, time is of the essence for a DUI-blood draw ... because the more time passes, the harder it is to determine the BAC at the time of the crash. Spence's blood showed he WAS intoxicated ... and he has since been charged with DWI.

Spence Jr. is currently recovering and is optimistic about returning to the ring sometime soon in 2020.
