Last weekend, Kim Kardashian made her highly anticipated “Saturday Night Live” hosting debut. She was also the first Kardashian to host the iconic show. There were plenty of memorable moments by Kim that night, with the opening monologue garnering the most attention.
She made jokes about her 2007 sex tape with Ray J, how she married the “best rapper of all-time” in Kanye West, and joked about running for president, but taking that back, due to seeing Kanye and Kris Jenner failing at running for office.
Kim Made O.J. Simpson Joke In Monologue
One of the biggest trending jokes in Kim’s SNL monologue also included discussing O.J. Simpson. Here, she was joking about how her father, Robert Kardashian Sr, being the defense attorney for Simpson, helped her “meet her first Black person.” At that time, in 1994, Simpson was on trial for the murders of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson, which he ended up being acquitted for.
“Wanna take a stab in the dark at who it was?” Kardashian asked during the monologue. “It’s sort of weird to remember the first Black person you met, but O.J. does leave a mark. Or several. Or none at all. I still don’t know.”
Nicole Brown Simpson’s Sister Responds To Kim
This joke still hasn’t been received well by a lot of people, and this includes Nicole Brown’s sister, Tanya Brown. She spoke with PEOPLE, and deemed Kim’s comments as “beyond inappropriate and insensitive.”
“If she and her family loved Nicole so much as they claimed, this was done in very poor taste,” Tanya added. “I think the taste of writers at SNL was beyond inappropriate and insensitive as was the reaction in the audience.”
Tanya Brown Believes Kim Could’ve Prevented O.J Simpson Mention
Brown went on to blast Kim’s move to use these OJ comments on SNL, as she believes that Kim had the power, to scrap that joke. She also mentioned how this was done during Domestic Violence Awareness month.
“Regarding Kim, I believe everyone has a choice to control what they speak on. She easily could have said, ‘This is inappropriate and disrespectful to everyone! Not only for Nicole and Ron but for all victims of domestic violence who were murdered by their significant others. Our loss, Browns and Goldmans, should not be portrayed as a comedy — family or non-family. Loss, tragedy, murder, crime should not be portrayed as comedy. Everyone has a choice!”
Kanye West And Comedic Legends Reportedly Helped Kim Prepare For SNL Hosting
Kim’s SNL hosting was episode two, of the show’s new 47th season. Ahead of this hosting, it was revealed that her estranged husband, Kanye West, along with comedic legends such as Dave Chappelle, Michelle Wolf, Ellen DeGeneres, Amy Schumer and James Corden, all assisted Kim in helping her with her monologue, as well as how to perform her skits. Kim also supposedly spent days that required 20-hour rehearsals, as she’d prepare for SNL from 5 AM-3 AM the next day. Kim reportedly put in the work required, and it showed, on the air date.
