Although Prince Charles and Princess Diana seemed happy when they first got married, things quickly went downhill after that. After their so-called fairytale wedding and honeymoon, rumors started going around that Prince Charles was having an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.
Although they started out as rumors, the Royal Family quickly learned that they weren't just rumors but that they were true. The Prince of Wales and future King of England was having an affair and it was with Camilla Parker Bowles.

It was confirmed in 1992 when Diana and Charles separated that not all was well in their marriage. There were more rumors from the media and the people close to the Prince and Princess that he was having an affair. Diana said the media coverage got to be a bit too much for her and the family.
Prince Charles admitted to committing adultery in 1994. The next year, Diana gave a bombshell interview with Panorama and admitted to everyone just how unhappy she was in the marriage.

In 1996, they started divorce proceedings but were quieter about going through a divorce than they were about their marriage problems that led to the divorce. Although they were quiet about everything, Diana did talk to a few friends about her problems in her marriage. One of those friends was George Michael.
According to The Sun, during Diana and Charles's divorce, she talked to Michael about it on the phone and the phone conversation was recorded by an answering machine.
George Michael was the one who recorded the conversation between him and Diana about her divorce. Before he passed away he gave the tape with the conversation on it to his childhood friend, Andros Georgiou as a retirement gift.
When Diana spoke to Michael on her birthday in 1006, she confided in him how terrible the divorce was and how "cold" and "uncaring" the Royal Family was.
She said, “It’s been pretty grim, but we’re near the end of it. Not a very loving, compassionate family, this one I’m leaving.”

During their phone call, George Michael asked Diana to get together with him to catch up on old times. However, Diana told him she wanted to wait until everything was squared away before she did that.
Princess Diana and Prince Charles's divorce was final in 1996. The next year she was killed in a car accident in Paris.
George Michael died 10 years later. He was found dead in his Oxfordshire home on Christmas Day in 2016. He died from a heart condition and a fatty liver.

Princess Diana was not just close friends with George Michael but she was also friends with Elton John, Michael Jackson, Liza Minnelli, and Bryan Adams.
She met Michael Jackson during his Bad tour in 1988. This is when he became another good friend of hers and another confidante.
After Diana was killed in the car crash on August 31, 1997, Jackson had this to say about her, "Diana was one of the sweetest people I’ve ever known because we could relate to each other. We shared something in common, with the press. I don’t think they hounded anyone more than her and myself. And we had a relationship, where we would call each other late at night… just cry on each other’s shoulders, how hard and difficult and how mean the tabloids can be.”
