There's plenty of reason to believe that, after the way things ended between Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt, the two would have grown rather distant with one another. After all, the circumstances of the split were sketchy at best, and heartbreaking at worst.

In fact, though, the two are still quite close, and they appear to hang out a lot. This frequent time together has sparked plenty of speculation that the two are on the verge of reconciling, but is there any truth to those rumors?

Recently, one source told Us Weekly that Pitt and Aniston still have plenty of chemistry, although that doesn't mean they're going to get back together. "They’ve always cared about each other, and they think fondly of their time together," the source said. "For Jen, seeing Brad is like seeing a dear old friend again. They have a real bond."

Given the years they spent married to one another, it makes sense that they would still be quite close even after they got divorced.

The pair first met after they were set up on a blind date by an agent in 1998. They were married in 2000. The years that followed turned the couple into Hollywood royalty, and for a time, it seemed like they were the definition of a Hollywood love story.

In 2005, the couple split in a highly public way, and Pitt was with Angelina Jolie for more than a decade afterward. Prior to the split, the source noted that Aniston considered Pitt to be her "soulmate."

Although it's never been confirmed, many people believe that Pitt stepped out on Aniston while filming "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" with Jolie. Those rumors engendered a lot of sympathy for Aniston, although there are other sources who suggest that the split was the result of constant fighting between them.

In an interview with Vogue back in 2007, Jolie went out of her way to insist that nothing had happened between her and Pitt during his relationship with Aniston. At the same time, though, she admitted that the two fell in love on set.

"Because of the film, we ended up being brought together to do all these crazy things, and I think we found this strange friendship and partnership that kind of just suddenly happened," Jolie said. "I think a few months in I realized, ‘God, I can’t wait to get to work.’ … Anything we had to do with each other, we just found a lot of joy in it together and a lot of real teamwork. We just became kind of a pair."
