Kim Kardashian has faced plenty of controversies during her time as a star. In fact, she's made her career on controversy. The most recent criticism of Kim comes after she was accused of blackface for darkening her skin on a magazine cover.

While this accusation is worth taking seriously, it's also not the first time the star has been in hot water for racial insensitivity. In fact, it's a fairly frequent occurrence for the star over the course of her career.

The latest controversy stems from a cover that Kardashian shot for 7Hollywood Magazine. On the cover, Kardashian is dressed and done up in an homage to Elizabeth Taylor, but most fans were much more focused on how dark her skin was in the photoshoot.

In the shoot's aftermath, there was an immediate uproar, in part because this is not the first time that Kardashian has faced these kinds of accusations. Just two years ago, the A-list celebrity was in a very similar situation.

In 2017, Kardashian channeled Jackie Kennedy during a photoshoot with Interview Magazine along with her daughter, North. In that shoot, fans were also quick to point out that her skin looked much darker than it does in real life.

The interview that accompanied those photos also left many upset. In the interview, she seemed to emphasize her daughter North's physical appearance. Some criticism of Kardashian suggested that the interview was just further proof that Kardashian is obsessed with the physical appearance of black and brown people.

Throughout their time in the spotlight, the Kardashians have been accused of a wide variety of cultural appropriation. Just this year, Kim was in hot water again after fans online accused her of trying to make money off of Japanese culture.

The criticism came after she announced that her new shapewear line would be called Kimono. She claimed that the name was a play on her own, but many fans were quick to point out that it's also the name of a Japanese garment.

Most often, though, the Kardashians are criticized for things like the photoshoot controversy. More than once, it's been pointed out that the stars are not quick to embrace the features they were born with. Instead, they seem to have procedures performed so that they can look more like black women.

It's a problem that's dogged the entire family throughout their time in the spotlight, and one that seems to be at least in part based in realities about the family.
