Although Prince Harry was present at the recent unveiling of a statue of his mother at her former home Kensington Palace, he won’t be there at an event for donors who gave money to fund the statue. Yes, apparently the brothers didn’t fund the entire project out of pocket. The event is going to include some of Diana’s celebrity friends. Like Sir Elton John, and others. Who are also part of the folks that helped fund the creation of the statue and the garden? The event is set to be hosted by Prince William.
Why The No Show From The Sussex Family?
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not formally announced that they will not be attending the ceremony. It has been reported though that Harry is reaching out to donors privately to thank them for their contributions.
As for Meghan Markle, she seems to be the reason why the couple is not headed across the pond anytime soon. Meghan has yet to be in the same room as other members of the Royal Family beside her husband since she got on a plane and left for Canada. Apparently, the couple is just not picking this event for the reunion.
A Cold Shoulder To The Spencer’s’?
It’s well documented that Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and the royals don’t necessarily have the best relationship currently. However, there has never been a mention of an issue between Markle and Princess Diana’s family The Spencer’s. When the statue was first revealed on what would have been Princess Diana’s birthday it was Diana’s sisters and brothers who were in attendance not members of the Royal Family per se.
That’s why it just seems odd that Harry would completely bypass this chance to reunite with his mother’s side of the family once again. Unless there’s something that we are missing here.
Getting The VIP Treatment In NYC
Harry and Meghan may have wanted to renounce their royal titles. It’s safe to say though that they are still taking advantage of some of that royal fame. The couple met with NYC mayor Bill De Blasio. They also spoke at the Global Citizen Live Event. Where they promoted one of the causes that they’ve been championing through the pandemic, vaccine equity. At the event the couple took the stage together and said a few words to ramp up the crowd. Ultimately, they shared data with the crowd about vaccination inequality.
When Will They Be Back In The UK?
After potentially missing out on this upcoming event Harry and Meghan are probably looking at the UK return until June of 2022. Reports indicate that the couple has already expressed their interest in being invited to the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations. Next June, Queen Elizabeth will hold a celebration to mark her 70th year on the throne! The festivities are set to kick off with the traditional trooping the color parade. They will end with a massive concert from Buckingham Palace!
