Celebrities Who've Had Complicated Pregnancies

Reality star and businesswoman, Kim Kardashian's dream was to be a mom. Kim's dream of motherhood came true when she met her husband Kanye West.

A year after they began dating, Kim gave birth to their daughter North. Two years later she would give birth to a son named Saint.

When the couple wanted to expand their family, doctors advised Kim against getting pregnant due to complications from her previous pregnancies.

The couple sought the help of a surrogate, and in 2018 their daughter Chicago was born. This past May, the couple also welcomed another son named Pslam, who was born via surrogacy.

Kardashian recently opened up about the complications she had during her first two pregnancies. During both pregnancies, she was diagnosed with preeclampsia and her babies had to be delivered early. Following Saint's birth, Kim had to undergo 5 surgeries to fix the damage that was caused by her condition.

Kim isn't the only celebrity who has faced difficult complications during pregnancy.

In 2012, Anna Faris and her husband Chris Pratt were preparing to welcome their first child into the world.

However, complications arose when Anna's water broke and she went into labor early. In August 2012, Anna gave birth to their son Jack. Because Jack was born nine weeks early, the infant had to spend time in the NICU.

Anna detailed every moment of Jack's birth and recovery in her autobiography. She called it a scary time in her life.

Today, Jack is 7 years old and although he has some vision problems, he's a happy and healthy boy.

In 2012, Tori Spelling was already a mom to three kids when she announced she and her husband Dean McDermott were having another baby.

Tori had given birth to their third child Hattie in October 2011, and 10 months later Tori and Dean welcomed a son Finn.

Yet, as Tori would reveal later, complications arose during her fourth pregnancy.

She was diagnosed with a condition known as placenta previa. Her condition was dire and caused her to be hospitalized. There was a chance that Tori and her baby couldn't make it, but luckily she and baby Finn made it through this frightening ordeal.

Despite the complications from the pregnancy, Tori would go on to have a fifth child, a son named Beau who was born in 2017.

Serena Williams

In 2017, tennis star Serena Williams had plenty to celebrate. She became engaged to her boyfriend Alexis Ohanian and was pregnant with their first child.

Aside from preparing for her baby and her wedding, Serena was also planning a return to the tennis court.

In September 2017, Serena gave birth to a daughter named Alexis Olympia. However, Serena did experience complications during the baby's birth. Doctors had to perform a C-section due to a pulmonary embolism. Shortly after the baby's birth, Serena had another pulmonary embolism, which required her to undergo surgery and bed rest.

Jessica Simpson

Singer/fashion designer Jessica Simpson is a mom of three.

All of Jessica's pregnancies caused a lot of media attention due to her weight gain. Speculation began that the star was at risk of having gestational diabetes.

Simpson denied the claims and said her weight gain was due to binge eating.

During Jessica's third pregnancy, her weight continued to cause media speculation. The star even opened up about experiencing sciatica pain and swollen feet.

In March 2019, the star's third child, a daughter named Birdie was born. The baby weighed over 10 pounds and was born via C-section.
