Some Fans Worry 'Thor: Love and Thunder' Won't Live Up To The Hype

Thor: Ragnarok was a massive hit with fans critics. Directed by Taika Waititi, Ragnarok is by far the most successful of the Thor movies. While Chris Hemsworth's Thor did very well went put in the group setting of the Avengers, but his stand-alone films up until 2018 were decidedly lackluster. Bringing in some new blood like Waititi seemed to be a good idea. After the incredible success of Thor: Ragnarok, it seemed like a great idea to bring Waititi back to direct the fourth Thor movie Thor: Love and Thunder.

'Ragnarok' Was A Big Box Office Success

Besides being a success with audiences and critics, Ragnarok did incredibly well at the box office. The first Thor movie in 2011 did respectably, bringing in $181 million. While the second movie The Dark World in 2013 brought in $206 million, it wasn't very well received by audiences and generally deemed forgettable. But Ragnarok brought in box office totals at $300 million. With that level of success, both in fan adulation and in box office numbers, a fourth movie seemed practically guaranteed.

Some Fans Are Concerned

As much as Marvel fans are excited about the fourth Thor movie, some are little worried that the next film won't be as good as _Ragnarok. Because Ragnarok was such an unexpected runaway hit, some fans expressed concerns that the Love and Thunder won't live up to the now high expectations.

One Reddit fan said "Am honestly hyped for this movie. Am only worried it might not be as impactful as Ragnarok cause I did not expect Ragnarok to be as good as it was. Now I know, and I want more."

There Isn't A Complete Script Yet

The actors starring in Love and Thunder are very excited about being in the new movie, but recent reports indicate that there isn't a full script yet. And shooting is supposed to start in mid-2020.

When asked about what to expect from Love and Thunder at Tokyo Comic-Con, Chris Hemsworth answered:

"Lots of love and lots of thunder. You can expect that. I haven't seen the script yet. I know they're working very hard on it and pretty excited to bring you something pretty fresh and new again. But having left Endgame, where Thor was, we have a lot of room to move there and drastically change again, which is very, very exciting. But we start shooting that sort of mid-next year."

The Movie Is Probably In Good Hands

As much as fans might have a few concerns, particularly with the current absence of a complete script, Love and Thunder is probably going to do just fine. Taika Waititi is a highly accomplished director with an impressive body of work (his latest film, Jojo Rabbit, has been met with high praise). Plus, we have Natalie Portman returning to the MCU after a long absence to play the new female Thor. And of course, we'll still see other fan-favorite characters such as Thor, Valkyrie, and even Korg.
