Although she’s one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, Angelina Jolie is mostly unavailable on social media. To date, she’s only been featured in a single photo on the platform.
Elle Fanning, her co-star in the “Maleficent” films, shared the photo on her own channel. The main purpose of social media, especially for celebrities, is to share a more human side. It’s understandable that Jolie, who’s already incredibly famous, wouldn’t see it as a necessary part of her work as an actor.
Thanks to her “Eternals” co-star Salma Hayek, though, we now have our second ever look at Jolie from social media. The actress, who is 53, shared a photo of herself with Jolie, 44, as well as co-star Kumail Nanjiani, who is 41.
“Gosh am I so lucky…,” Hayek wrote in the caption for the post. “I thought I was just going to be working with great actors playing aliens; little did I know, I was going to befriend amazing human beings.”
The photo is a charming look behind-the-scenes at the cast and their relationships with one another. Based on photos from Nanjiani’s Instagram, it seems like the entire cast got together for dinner, which is when this photo was taken.
In a repost of Salma’s post, the actor had his own praise to offer. “I get to work with these amazings every day,” he wrote. “It’s an honor and a thrill. They are going to be so good in Eternals. Every day on set with them is a masterclass. I just take notes.”
The superhero movie has been filming in Europe, and it’s set to be released in 2020. It represents Jolie’s debut in the Marvel universe, and it’s designed as an intergalactic story. Jolie has the lead role in the film as Thena, while Hayek will play a character named Ajak and Nanjiani will play one called Kingo.
The movie is set millions of years in the past, following an ancient race called Celestials who experiment on humans. It’s not your typical superhero story.
As the Celestials experiment, they inadvertently create a race of superhumans called Eternals, and a second superhuman race called Deviants. Fighting happens after that.
“The Eternals” is being directed by Chloé Zhao, an acclaimed director who has thus far made much smaller films. Given the film’s cast and its director, there’s plenty to be excited about, and it seems like filming is going well. If “Eternals” works, it could be a new branch of the story that Marvel is telling in this new phase.
