Six years after the first movie came out, ‘Frozen 2’ was just released this year to high praise from audiences. This was quite the gamble by Disney as ‘Frozen 2’ marks the first cinematic Disney movie sequel. In years past, whenever Disney would release a sequel to a classic animated movie, it was always straight-to-DVD (or video, depending on the year), and both the animation and story quality took a massive plunge. But ‘Frozen 2’ has been marked with great success, and fans are now wondering if we’re going to get a third ‘Frozen’ movie in the next few years.

One reason why a sequel would usually seem likely is when the first movie does particularly well at the box office. The first ‘Frozen’ movie grossed $1.27 billion, practically ensuring an eventual sequel. And after six years, audiences were given the cinematic release of ‘Frozen 2,’ which to date has brought in $287.6 million in domestic sales and $451 million in overseas sales, bringing it to a total of $738.6 million. Numbers such as these are practically guaranteed to ensure another film.
However, director Jennifer Lee is currently on the fence about whether to make another ‘Frozen’ movie and questions whether a third one is even needed.
“For me [finishing Frozen 2] felt final,” Lee said in a recent interview with Yahoo! Movies UK.
“But we always say ‘never say never.’ I think what made this one special is that we’d both confessed that we didn’t want to leave this world. We naively just went into this because we love [the characters], and we could see more story.”
Even a few of the movie’s voice actors are expressing doubts about a third movie, feeling that the second movie has sufficiently covered all the story that is left to tell about the ‘Frozen’ characters. Alfred Molina, who plays Elsa and Anna’s father, King Agnarr, recently voiced his skepticism about making a third ‘Frozen’ movie.
“I don’t think they’ll be a 3, that’s what I heard. But who knows? Those kind of decisions are way above my pay grade,” said Molina.
Soooo…Frozen 2 might be one of the best Disney movies I’ve ever seen.
The writing is incredibly deep. I will be using this movie to help with the emotional and spiritual formation of my kids for a long time.

Jennifer Lee has indicated that there is no definite decision made about making a ‘Frozen 3.’ Kristen Bell, the voice of Anna, might ultimately be the one who makes that decision.
“She is so talented,” Lee said of Bell.
“She was instrumental to Anna’s journey, and I’m so proud that she joined us on saying, ‘Look, Anna’s… you look to her as the optimist [but] we all go through struggles. I have struggles every day, and I choose to be this way, and get up off the floor and never give up, and that was the journey that Anna should have.’ And we agreed. So she’s been an incredible partner in it, so maybe she has a good idea [for Frozen 3].”
