Drew Barrymore has seen Dakota Johnson‘s viral interview with Ellen DeGeneres, and she adores it.
On October 7, 2021, the “Fifty Shades of Grey” star was a guest on an episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show,” where she discussed her neighbors, Jimmy Kimmel and his wife, Molly McNearney.
“They have a lot of parties and they don’t invite me,” the “Suspiria” star quipped, to which Barrymore replied, “Is this for real? Because people have gotten in trouble for claiming not to be invited to your parties.”
This was a jab at Johnson’s November 2019 appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which blew up because of exchange the 63-year-old comedian shared with the “High Note” star. During the episode, DeGeneres claimed that Johnson forgot to invite her to her birthday party which was held in October of that year.
“Actually, no, that’s not the truth, Ellen,” said the actress. “You were invited. Last time I was on the show last year, you gave me a bunch of s—t about not inviting you, but I didn’t even know you wanted to be invited. I didn’t even know you liked me!”
DeGeneres’ Reaction
DeGeneres, for her part, claimed that she had no idea why the “Bigger Splash” star thought that. “Of course I like you,” the Emmy winner said. “You knew I liked you. You’ve been on the show many times, and don’t I show like?”
Johnson insisted that she invited the talk show host, who, on the other hand, didn’t come. “Ask everybody,” she told DeGeneres. “Ask Jonathan, your producer.”
After one of the show’s staffers confirmed that the Golden Globe winner had been invited, DeGeneres said she must have had a “thing” that prevented her from attending. “It was probably in Malibu,” she continued. “That’s too far for me to go to.”
Things got more awkward when Johnson confirmed to the host and comedian that Tig Notaro performed a set at the party. She also added, “She’s my favorite comedian, other than you.” This got a response of awws from the audience. The Texas native then got up and pretended to walk off the set, while DeGeneres joked that her favorite actress was Jennifer Aniston.
When Barrymore reminded Dakota about the episode, she burst out laughing and turned into a bright shade of red. “That was amazing, by the way,” Barrymore said of the interview. “Like, amazing.”
Barrymore’s Talk Show
“The Drew Barrymore Show” is a first-run syndicated American talk show hosted by actress Barrymore. The show, which is distributed by CBS Media Venture, debuted on September 14, 2020. In March 2021, the show was renewed for a second season.
Charged by humor and optimism, Barrymore presents human interest stories and has heartfelt conversations with special guests. The program also features celebrity guests, lifestyle segments, and field pieces.
During a virtual press conference to promote the launch of the show, Barrymore and executive producer Jason Kurtz spoke about what viewers should know about the show, why it’s important for her to have her own voice and what makes the show uniquely hers.
“Being a storyteller is the background I come from, in my life. The work I’ve invested myself in my whole life has been storytelling and I feel like that’s a very welcoming world to all people. It’s about a collective experience. It’s about relatability. It’s about finding life-affirming moments or ways out of breaking cycles, and everything in between. I’ve lived my life adjacent to all of these characters that I’ve played, and there’s always a sense of me in there because you can never fully get yourself out,” she concluded.
Johnson’s Birthday Party
In 2019, the “Fifty Shades of Grey” alum celebrated her 30th birthday with a star-studded celebration in Malibu. Johnson’s beau, Chris Martin, was by her side at the party, Martin’s ex, Gwyneth Paltrow, was also around.
Other celeb attendees included Miley Cyrus, Kate Hudson, Johnson’s mom, Melanie Griffith, Robert Downey Jr. and Sean Penn.
“Dakota arrived with Chris Martin and his son Moses,” a source told E!. “She seemed very close with Moses and was laughing and holding on to him.”
“The party was held at a vacant parking lot in Malibu. It was a huge party with white balloon arches going across the sky,” an insider shared. “They had a big stage for performers and an Airstream set up with a bar. They had the Van Leeuwen ice cream truck as well. The decor was very boho with feathered pampas grass arrangements surrounding the stage.”
Johnson And Beau Attended DeGeneres’ 60th Birthday Party
Johnson and Martin kept each other close as they celebrated Ellen DeGeneres’ big day.
The two were seen holding hands as they caught up with Drew Barrymore outside the talk show host’s 60th birthday bash.
