For fans of Mackenzie McKee, it truly is the end of an era. The Teen Mom OG star’s mother Angie Douthit sadly passed away yesterday following a brave cancer battle.
Angie fought her lung cancer diagnosis as best she could, but the aggressive and brutal nature of her disease took her life. Mackenzie broke the news on Instagram on Monday, and she’s been getting support from more than just the general public.
Famous faces from the MTV franchise have been leaving their support via the digital space, and there’s no denying it – the messages are heartbreaking AF.
Teen Mom OG faces tend not to be seen with Teen Mom 2 ones. Heartbreak brings people together, though. Teen Mom 2 star Chelsea Houska’s dad Randy left words on Twitter.
“I am certainly older and lost my parents many years ago, but my heart goes out to @DouthitKenzie because I can still feel the pain of the loss of a parent. It is a helpless feeling and one feels like there will be no end to it. Eventually, memories bring smiles instead of tears,” he wrote.
For fans, the final sentence is likely the most moving one.
Teen Mom OG’s Kristina Shirley (wife to Amber Portwood‘s ex, Gary Shirley) also took the time to leave Mackenzie and her family some kind words. She replied to Chelsea’s dad.
“My heart completely breaks for her,” she wrote.
“I lost my mom when I was 16 and will forever cherish the wonderful memories we had. Sending prayers to [Mackenzie] and her family,” Kristina added.
Mackenzie chose a particularly powerful Instagram photo to break the news – you can see it below.
Mackenzie’s announcement came with a heartfelt message regarding her mom.
“There were times when she wrote her posts through pain and confusion. There were times at the end when she couldn’t type and would ask her daughters to type for her but she would not give up spreading the gospel message of hope. In nearly two years, she never missed her daily post…tomorrow she will.”
Angie chose to share her cancer battle on Instagram, keeping fans updated with her ups and downs, regardless of how ugly things got. Fans saw Angie in hospital gowns, although precious home family moments were also shared.
Lung cancer isn’t generally what you’d see a former marathon runner developing. Especially one who’d never smoked a cigarette in her life.
Angie’s diagnosis shook her family to its very core. Teen Mom OG fans watched Mackenzie fear the worst, also seeing the mom of three attempts to explain Douthit’s sickness to her three young children. A particularly moving scene showed McKee trying to convey the concept of death to her eldest son, with him not quite understanding what happens when a human being’s life ends.
Shortly before Angie died, Mackenzie took to Instagram with a quote from the Bible and a mention of her mom.
“Mom has been a Christ-like example to many people ever since she got saved. She doesn’t just talk the talk, she walks the walk. She is obedient to her Savior. She led dad to the Lord a long time ago. Since then, mom has been a faithful Christ-like example to dad. When mom got sick, she was very weak and it was hard for her to raise her hands,” she wrote.
Fans are likely keeping Mackenzie and her entire family in their thoughts.
