Coming off his recent success with the Starz franchise “Power,” 50 Cent launched a new project with the network once more. This time, he moved away from the realm of fiction and delved into the world of biopics.
His new project named “Black Family Mafia” is a drama series that chronicled the lives of the criminal duo called the “Flenory Brothers.” It also followed the activities of their eponymously titled gang.
At the apex of their crime lives, Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory reportedly amassed so much wealth that rivaled other drug barons in the world.

The Duo’s Net worth
The brothers started at the lower rungs of Detroit’s drug enterprise. However, they quickly grew in criminal stature and formed their gang.
As per reports from Celebrity Net Worth, each brother was worth $100 million in their prime. They also had a large team of over 500 underlings working the streets and bringing in the drug dough consistently.
Their illegal business outgrew their Detroit hub, spreading to other locations in the United States with aid from their Los Angeles–based drug source and Mexican drug cartels.
Time ran out for the duo in 2005 when the US federal agents indicted them on drug trafficking and money laundering charges. In court, the prosecutors alleged that “BMF” had made over $270 million before their arrest. In the end, each brother bagged 30 years in federal prison.
Recently, Terry was released from prison amid coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns. However, Demetrius is still in jail, pending his release in 2028.
The Drug Cover
In the early 2000s, the brothers saw the need to provide cover for their drug business and a means to launder money. This led to the establishment of BMF Entertainment,”a front organization for their illegal activities.
On the flip side, the agency served as a record label for hip-hop music. Its known associates were numerous high-profile hip-hop artists including, Trina, T.I., Shawty Lo, Jay-Z, and Fabolous.
Their music acts featured in several underground hip-hop DVD magazines such as S.M.A.C.K. and The Come Up.
One of their songs, “Streets on Lock” received wide acclaim from disk jockeys for its deep hip-hop lyrics. A music video was later produced for the single though it never got air-time on networks.
Demetrius’s Son Portrayed His Father In ‘BMF’
When Starz was looking for who to cast as Demetrius, they did look too far to get their main man. Whether it was a coincidence or for emotional ties, the network selected Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr., to depict his father in the show.
The show also starred “The Way Back” actor Da’Vinchi as Terry alongside Russell Hornsby, Michole Briana White, Ajiona Alexus, Wood Harris, Steve Harris, Snoop Dogg, La La Anthony, and Serayah.
While filming, Demetrius Jr. revealed that reliving his father’s past was quite painful for his family.
“We filmed at my grandmother’s house that my dad and uncle grew up in, and I got to walk the same steps that my father and uncle got to walk,” he informed The Detroit News.
“My grandmother was actually on set watching us, and everything hit so close to home for her that she couldn’t stop crying.”
‘BMF’ Is A Unique Series On Its Own
Many fans have stated that “BMF” exactly mirrored the “Power” spinoff “Raising Kanan.” Although both series are crime dramas, 50 Cent recently pointed out a key difference between them.
“Look at the difference between the mom and pop in BMF versus the mom in Raising Kanan,” he told Express.
“She’s like the source of all that. The other two parents are just horrified by the thought of kids even doing something like that.”
In “Raising Kanan,” his mother gave him his first taste of the drug life. In contrast, Meech and Terry’s parents were not in support of their criminal activities.
