When Robert Pattinson was first cast as the new Batman, fans were intrigued. Ben Affleck has been playing the Dark Knight in both 'Batman vs. Superman' and 'Justice League' which has been met with underwhelming success and overall disappointment from fans. It was time for a change-up.

Audiences were pleasantly surprised and are generally optimistic about Robert Pattinson's casting. Ever since he starred in the popular 'Twilight' series, Pattinson has preferred doing independent films of his choosing, so there must be something special about this upcoming Batman movie.

Surprisingly enough, Pattinson doesn't actually consider the Caped Crusader to be a real "superhero." Why? Because Batman lacks any supernatural abilities.

“Batman’s not a superhero,” Pattinson said. “It’s weird. I always balk at it. I’m like, it doesn’t count. You need to have, like, magical powers to be a superhero.”

It's fair, Batman is the only one of his Justice League team members who doesn't have any concrete powers. He has plenty of weapons, technology, and training, but he's far more vulnerable than his superpowered colleagues. But he does have a cool cape.

Batman Technically Has One Power

Despite being a widely loved hero, Pattinson is certainly playing into a longstanding joke about Batman's lack of superpowers. People often jest that Batman's true superpower is his money and resources. After all, it's pretty doubtful that he would have been able to become a superhero in the absence of his extreme wealth and connections.

Batman is a brilliant detective to be sure, but without his money, there would be no plausible way for him to afford the Batmobile, the Batcave, his weapons, or his technology. And he probably wouldn't be able to travel the world to receive high-level training, either.

How Pattinson Might Play The Role

Pattinson putting Batman down as a superhero could also be his subtle way of telling us how he's going to play the role. All of the Batman actors before him have put their own spin on the character, so Pattinson probably wants to deliver an entirely new and unique performance.

"He’s a complicated character. I don’t think I could ever play a real hero — there’s always got to be something a little bit wrong. I think it’s because one of my eyes is smaller than the other one," Pattinson said.

Regardless of whether you agree with him or not on his opinions on Batman, one thing is definitely clear. Pattinson is definitely excited to play the part and ready to make his mark in the DC Movie Universe.

“I love, I love the kind of history. I love every iteration of how it’s been played,” Pattinson said

“I think Matt Reeves has got a really good direction for it,” he said. “I’m very kind of eager to get started on it.”
