An independent team of investigators are almost certain they have identified the Zodiac Killer. The serial killer who terrorized Northern California beginning in the 60s had managed to evade capture for the last four decades.
Now, the investigators are claiming a man named Gary Francis Poste as the serial killer and they allegedly have proof.
Who Is Gary Francis Poste?
Not much is known about Poste so far, but one thing is for sure, he is no longer living. The possible serial killer passed away in 2018. Also, his face featured some prominent scars that the Zodiac Killer has long been associated with.
The team also revealed that he may had more victims than they originally thought. A young woman named Cheri Jo Bates was murdered on October 31, 1966, in Riverside, California, two years before he started taunting police and intimidating neighborhoods with his cyphers.
Bates was 18 at the time. Her body was found in an alleyway on the Riverside City College campus. Her father had reported her missing only a short time before.
The Team
The group of people who have alleged to found out this information consists of 40 detectives, journalists, and military intelligence who are calling themselves “The Case Breakers” they combed through evidence and have come to the conclusion that Poste is indeed the guy.
The Zodiac Killer was connected to 5 murders in the 60s and between 1968 and 1969 he was supposedly communicating with ciphers that were rather hard at the time to figure out. He would brutally murder his victims with mostly a gun and in one possible case, her used a knife. In some cases, he tied up his victims and others were shot an obscene amount of time, probably trying to run.
The team claims to have gone through not only old evidence but new evidence found in Poste’s darkroom linking him to the murders and the cyphers.

According to the large team, a picture found of Poste in that darkroom revealed deep lines in his forehead. The same alleged scars the Zodiac Killer had in the police sketch all those years ago. Besides that small clue, they also deciphered letters from the Zodiac revealing Poste to be the killer.
There was also a note where, when Poste’s full name was removed it revealed another message. One of the army intelligence team claimed that you needed to basically be on a need to know basic to be able to decipher that last message.
“So you’ve got to know Gary’s full name in order to decipher these anagrams. I just don’t think there’s any other way anybody would have figured it out.”
The victims

The case is obviously pretty cold but, for true crime fans, this is a big deal and for the victim’s family, this is monumental, if it turns out to be true of course. As mentioned, the Zodiac Killer has been linked to 5 murders.
Robert Domingos and his fiancé Linda Edwards were seniors in high school, they were shot. Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday were also shot. Darlene Ferrin was a wife and a mother; she and her friend Michael Mageau were also attacked with a gun. He survived after a shot to the jaw, shoulder, and leg.
Ferrin was shot as well and rushed to the hospital, but she was later pronounced dead. And long-assumed victim Eighteen-year-old Cheri Josephine Bates, who was the only one brutally stabbed to death.
