In the wake of the firings of Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough from America's Got Talent, things are starting to get a little complicated, as others have chimed in on their thoughts regarding the show, the NBC network, and the designated captain of the ship, Simon Cowell. What was initially alleged to be a series of isolated incidents in Union's case, now seems to be much more systemic. Just recently, insiders and confidants have spoken out on the perceived 'boys club' that is AGT and the NBC network. Here's what was said.

The Boys Club

In speaking with People Magazine, an insider from America's Got Talent opened up about what was really going on behind the scenes and who was in charge. The sources stated, "It's true that America's Got Talent is a boys club. Simon runs the show and as long as he's there, will continue to do so." And it seems as though NBC has given him free rein to do whatever he desires, as the source also mentioned that he is rarely ever told no. The real question is how does this unlimited autonomy translate to a toxic and potentially sexist and racist culture on the show?

The Final Word

Previous reports have been leaked stating that there is an alleged toxic culture at NBC, with men providing racist jokes and remarks, as well as unwarranted and inappropriate sexual advances on female employees. While there haven't been any direct connections to Cowell indulging in these transgressions, if the information is correct that everything goes by him first, there is no way that he isn't aware of what is going on behind the scenes. As one of the lead decision-makers on the show, this directly makes him responsible.

Sharon Osbourne's Take

As this story has been circulating over the course of the last week, prominent figures have been weighing in on their thoughts. One particular person who has done so is Sharon Osbourne who just happened to be a panel judge on the AGT for quite some time. Although she left in 2012, she opened up about her time on the show and the problems she had with NBC during a segment of The View. Osbourne shared, "I left. And that’s the truth. I left because NBC, not because of the show. I had my own problems with the network. I don’t know about any of her concerns about the show.” While Osbourne indicates that the network was the problem, not the show, others are being led to believe that they're both a part of the problem.

Will There Be Continued Fallout?

With more and more people commenting on the fiasco occurring within the AGT show, we are sure to learn more about what is truly going on. It's unclear, though, if we'll hear directly from Simon Cowell, himself, as AGT has already publically released a statement. Still, this story is becoming too big for NBC to ignore altogether, especially with alleged accusations of racism and sexism. We aren't living in the 1950s anymore. There cannot be a boys club that ignores the equal treatment of all, even if you're name is Simon Cowell.
