Fans of NBC's hit reality competition America's Got Talent were stunned last week when it was revealed co-hosts Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough would not be returning for the upcoming season. However, what transpired next was the real shocking turn of events. Being completely candid and transparent about the situation Union revealed very specific details about the events which lead up to her alleged firing. And one of the factors that came into play was a joke made by former Tonight Show host Jay Leno.

As previously reported both Union and Hough were abruptly released from the show with very few details being released at the time. However it soon came to light that their departure came from a series of interesting facts pertaining to the work environment on set. One of the most shocking revelations was when it was discovered the uneasy feelings on set were also heightened by a joke Leno made while guest-starring on the show. A joke that was ultimately edited out.

From People;

A report by Variety claimed that while working on the show, Union had expressed concerns over racially insensitive situations during her time as a judge, including a joke guest judge Jay Leno allegedly made that was later edited out of the episode. Union and Hough, 31, were also both subject to “excessive notes” on their physical appearance, sources alleged in Variety‘s report.

With so much drama continuously surrounding this issue so far Leno has been tight lipped about everything. Until now.

Pop Culture reports that Leno has finally broken his silence on everything taking place with the America's Got Talent debacle.

In his first comments since NBC announced Gabrielle Union would not return as a judge on the next season of America's Got Talent, Jay Leno called the actress "a great girl," adding that he "really enjoyed" working with her. The former late-night host told Daily Mail reporters as he left The Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, California, on Sunday, "I love Gabrielle Union, she's a great girl. I really enjoyed working with her, she's really good."

When asked if he thought Union was treated fairly, Leno remained vague, saying, "I don't know, but I think she's a great girl." When asked if he regrets telling the joke, he only jokingly mimed as if he were giving a response, but said no actual words.

Leno probably knows it's best to stay as far away from that drama as possible, since it's really only just beginning. Still he may have to say more soon since the drama does somewhat relate to something he said during Union and Hough's time on AGT. No word yet on if Union has commented on Leno's statement.
