'Beetlejuice' Star Geena Davis Settles Nasty Divorce After Five Year Legal Battle

Actress Geena Davis has just settled her ongoing divorce with her fourth husband, Dr. Reza Jarrahy, after a nasty five-year battle over the validity of their marriage.

The 'Beetlejuice' star alleged the couple was never actually married, following their separation in 2017. The 65-year-old actress claimed the former couple simply went through the motions of having a wedding, but never actually filed the proper paperwork to become husband and wife...in the eyes of the government.

If that were the case, the actress claimed there would be NO division of property, and the wealth she brought into the marriage would remain her own.

Of course, the allegation sparked a massive legal war which Jarrahy hoped might end in private mediation. Instead, the couple spent almost $2 million in attorney's fees to battle the case in a Los Angeles County Courthouse. It should be noted, the couple shares three children -- a 19-year old daughter, and 17-year-old twin boys.

Specifics of the settlement are confidential, but "they were very unfavorable to Reza, who agreed to settle just to put this behind him and be free of the nightmare Geena has caused for him," a source told PageSix. 

"Reza has had enough of her narcissism," they said. Adding, "so he was willing to take a bad deal just to make her go away and refocus on the kids. This has been devastating for Reza. Geena’s priorities since day one have been to preserve her lifestyle and wealth above anything else."

As for the giant legal fees, Jarrahy says it almost dove him into bankruptcy. "All money that could have and should have stayed in the family for their kids' futures," the source said. Adding, "For months on end, he had to sleep on friends’ couches, in their spare rooms, and even in his car at times in order to keep up with payments to his lawyer. He couldn’t have his kids with him while living like that, and it broke his heart … Meanwhile Geena continued to live in their Palisades mansion with the kids, oblivious to the pain she was causing her family. Her lifestyle didn’t change a bit."

In the end, Geena Davis sold the couple's Pacific Palisades home for $5.6 million, and the proceeds were not shared with her ex-husband due to her belief they were not married.

As we reported, the 'A League Of Their Own' star told the court her ex-husband is a highly-educated man who should have known that having a marriage license is a requirement for being married. "Reza is one of the most experienced and well-regarded craniofacial surgeons in Southern California, licensed himself, with over 10 years of post-graduate education … I think it is unreasonable for him to claim that he did not know that a marriage license is a requirement of marriage," she said at the time,

During the case, Reza pointed out that their wedding was even officiated by a Catholic Priest. But, she argued, Father Smith expressly made clear to us that while he would participate, he would not be able to officiate or perform a binding Catholic ceremony because neither of us was Catholic. Father Smith made sure we understood that he would not be able to say, ‘I now pronounce you husband and wife."

Again, the specifics of the settlement remain confidential.
