Rami Malek Threw Personal Questions At Kate Middleton To 'Catch Her Off Guard'

Royal encounters can be a bit overwhelming for certain people. Not for Rami Malek though. He’s figured out the perfect way to deal with the multiple royal encounters he has had over the years. Particularly with Prince William and Kate Middleton. Malek went on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday night and revealed what he’s talked about particularly with Kate Middleton in their encounters over the years. According to Malek he once even offered to babysit Prince Louis so that his parents could go out on the town!    

Malek’s whole technique in dealing with royal encounters revolves around asking them about their lives. He mentioned that when he’s met the royals you can tell that they do their “homework”. In that, they know a bit of backstory on potentially each person that they are going to meet. With actors like himself, they knew his filmography and a couple of things here and there about him. He was more interested to find out how they were doing. 

"For me, I just try to treat them like I would anybody else. I'm sure a dose of normality is probably something that is quite refreshing to them."   

Rami remembered that he had first met the couple in 2019 at the BAFTA awards. At the time he was one of the biggest stars of the show as he was ultimately honored with the best actor award for his role as Freddy Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. He remembers that Kate wanted to essentially let him talk about himself, but he wanted to let her vent about having her third child, 

“"I just looked at Princess Kate at one point, and I said, 'This must be exhausting.' And she said, 'Why?' Malek continued,"[I asked,] 'You just had a baby, right?' I think she was taken aback."   

In many ways what Malek was trying to do was to get Kate to break the character. The royals attend a ton of public events throughout the year, and they have to put on a smile and make people feel like they are interested in the conversation that they’re having. Even if they just share a few words. Remi wanted to give Kate time to vent about herself. He got it for just a split second recalling, 

“'How are you doing?' [I'm like,] 'No, how are you?' And in the most regal, elegant way, she gave me a look. But you can tell. Imagine, you're dressed to the nines, have to talk to all these actors,"

He then added, "They're so careful. But it was so cool. I think I caught her off guard for a second. And, you know, had that look of—in the most elegant, professional, royal way—'Yes, it's a lot, having a kid.'" 

For Kate, her conversation with Malek was either the most awkward thing that she’s ever experienced as a royal or a breath of fresh air. Remi really went off the rails after he’d gotten her to “break character” for a little bit. He followed that with an offer to babysit Prince Louis so that his parents could go out. Needless to say, the royals never took him up on the offer, but he mentioned,

“The funniest thing about that was, I said, 'If you ever need a day off, some time off, I'm back up for you,'" he recalled. "She's like, 'What do you mean?' I go, 'I can babysit, you guys go out, have a good time.'"
