Oprah Winfrey Reveals She Only Has 3 Close Friends

Oprah’s made a career out of giving people free cars and getting celebrities to share their deepest and darkest secrets on her show. From the looks of things though, she keeps her personal struggles a little closer to her chest.
Saying recently on the “Making Space with Hoda Kotb” podcast that she only keeps a close circle of friends that includes 3 people. Even naming her 3 closest friends. Which may have been a bit of a gut punch to all of the rest of her acquaintances that didn’t make the list. She did mention though that she’s actively looking to expand the list these days.
Who’s On The List?
Who happens to be part of the shortlist of friends that Oprah has? Well according to her the list includes, Maria Shriver, Gayle King and Bob Greene. Yes, not even Stedman made the list. Although we suspect he’s part of another circle not necessarily in the friendship bracket. On how Winfrey and Maria Shriver met Oprah recalls,
"I first met her in the bathroom [while working at] WJZ-TV early in the morning. I was coming in to do the morning cut-ins and she was doing evening magazine and had been up all night. [She] was in the bathroom, literally, splashing water on her face, and we started a conversation,"

What You Have To Do To Become Oprah’s Friend
Sitting on Oprah’s couch and spilling your guts out for the world to see isn’t enough to become long-time friends with the star. She said, for example, that her connection with Shriver was almost divine intervention. That sets the bar quite high. No wonder she’s had a tough time adding to her friend's list. She mentioned on her connection with Shriver,
"I forever think that that was, like, a divine moment that happened because she was one of my true, grounded friendships that carried me through my entire career."
If You Want To Keep Your Friends Bring Them Cups of Coffee
While Oprah talked about her connection with Shriver being something divine for Maria, their friendship is in the little things. Like when Oprah brings her a cup of coffee. The difference in how both of them saw their relationship was getting kind of awkward. Until Shriver followed up the line about Oprah getting her coffee with a cuter sentiment. Saying,
"In a funny way, even though I had a very close relationship with my mother, I wasn't nurtured, mothered in that way, right? And [Oprah] wasn't mothered in her own way. But I think, in a way, we have mothered each other."
She’ll Be Keeping Her New Friends Secret
Although she revealed the list of her top 3 friends Oprah went on to mention that she’d expanded her friendship circle in the last 5 years. Literally saying,
"I never really expanded that circle until recently, you know, I had become friends with a couple of people in my later adult life in the past five years."
That list was left open for interpretation. Which seems to be a good thing. Now folks like Harry and Meghan Markle can feel like they’re on Oprah’s extended friend's list. When maybe that’s not even the case.
