The 31-year-old author daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver took to Instagram on Monday and made the announcement. She posted a photo featuring herself and her husband. Meanwhile, the next content in the series showed a heartwarming video of the athletes. The socialite also added a lengthy note to the post.

“We are SO excited to be joining @specialolympics to spread the message of inclusion for those with intellectual disabilities,” Katherine wrote.
She continued, “Special Olympics has always been a huge part of my life. My grandmother dedicated her entire existence to being an advocate for those with special needs and my childhood consisted of going to SOI events and my cousins and I being camp councilors at Camp Shriver.”
Katherine also expressed how happy she felt to be chosen for the part.
“Chris and I are so thrilled to be a part of the SO family as a couple and to continue to spread the mission of SO and advocate whenever and wherever we can about inclusion, dignity and acceptance. This is a movement that speaks to our hearts as parents and individually.”

Katherine also mentioned that she’s “SO thrilled that Marvel Studios has also committed to hiring a Special Olympics athlete to work on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 !” She continued, “They have been such a joy to work with and I am so proud of them for taking a step like this and hopefully we will see many other companies following their lead.”
She then urged fans to watch the “wonderful video on the important work @specialolympics is doing to celebrate inclusion” and “to join the revolution” by visiting the Special Olympics website.

Chris also took the time to share the news on his social media page, posting the same couple photo that his wife shared, along with a long message:

Like Katherine, Chris mentioned the great deed done by Marvel Studios.

“First Major Announcement: We’re so grateful to @marvelstudios for taking the lead and committing to hire a Special Olympics athlete as a paid production assistant on the set of #GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol3,” he noted, adding that “the studio’s partnership with @SpecialOlympics is an excellent step in showing the importance of diversity and celebrating the outstanding capability of those with intellectual disabilities. We are hoping Marvel is the first of many companies to take a stand and celebrate the inclusion of the intellectually disabled.”
