In today's tense political climate many celebrities tend to silence their views as a way of keeping their private lives and opinions private. But then there are other celebrities who could care less what anyone thinks about their views and have no problems letting everyone know where they stand. One such celebrity is veteran actor Jon Voight, father of the super liberal actress Angelina Jolie. He is a proud Republican and staunch supporter of the current person in the White House Donald Trump.

If anyone needed proof that Voight's political views lean farther than the right in opposition to Jolie's views who could forget that time he officially made his position known? Fox News reports that back in August Voight took to Twitter to express his love for his party and his president with a brief video. He took the time to address the difference between what the Republican party is being vilified for by stating that they're all about love and peace.

“This is not peace,” he began. “This is not love. This is hate among the radical left. No amount of book smart will show the given policy of what truth stands for. Truth is a powerful emotion. Love ... is what we should be voting for. “And I must say that we — the Republican Party — have voted for renewal, for a place of safety, a community where all can have peace,” the Academy Award-winning actor continued. “But this is war among the left. They have hate. It’s like a venom. No words of God, no words of love, but a radical emotion of hate."

With support that strong it should come as no surprise that Voigt will be receiving the high honor in a ceremony taking place this upcoming Thursday, a week before Thanksgiving. And Voight has plenty to be thankful for since his outspoken endorsement of Trump will be rewarded so kindly. According to Fox News;

The honors have been an annual affair during past administrations, but they had not been awarded since Trump’s inauguration in January 2017. The most recent arts or humanities medals were bestowed by President Obama in September 2016.

Voight will receive the accolade “for his exceptional capacity as an actor to portray deeply complex characters.” The actor starred in “Midnight Cowboy,” the 1969 film that won an Academy Award for best picture, and he won the best actor Oscar for 1978’s “Coming Home.” He appears in the Showtime series “Ray Donovan.”

This is a huge honor for anyone, especially someone who's been in the entertainmet industry as long as Voight has been. One has to wonder though, will his daughter Angelina Jolie be in attendance for the ceremony?
