What Have the Cast of 'Supernatural' Been Up to Since the Series Ended?

This October marks the first October in fifteen years that fans of the CW cult-classic "Supernatural" don't have a new season of the Winchester brothers saving people, hunting things...you know, the family business.

The show, which first premiered in 2005, treated fans to fifteen seasons of watching Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester, Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester, and Misha Collins as the angel Castiel, hunting down monsters, ghosts, demons, and even God himself.

The show recently won a 2021 online poll for "The CW's Best Show Ever." The poll, which faced classics such as "Gossip Girl" and "Everybody Hates Chris" against newer shows like "Batwoman" and "Riverdale," ultimately saw "Supernatural" facing down with "Smallville" in the final bracket. Although "Smallville" narrowly beat out "The Vampire Diaries" to claim a spot in the final showdown, "Supernatural" won by a landslide, taking an estimated 77% of the votes.

Although the show will go down as one of the best supernatural series in television history, many of its beloved actors have already moved onto other projects.

Let's take a look at where they're at now.

Padalecki, 39, has already moved on to another CW show: “Walker.” The show is a reboot of the “Walker, Texas Ranger” series that starred Chuck Norris and ran from 1993-2001.

It seems that Padalecki brought his “Supernatural” fanbase to the role with him, as CW CEO Mark Pedowitz said in a statement that, “we are particularly pleased with the huge success of the launch of Walker, which debuted as our most-watched series premiere in 5 years.”

The show’s second season is set to air on October 28, 2021 and is keeping its Thursday night timeslot at 8 P.M. ET.

Ackles, 43, has moved over to season 3 of “The Boys” and is set to appear as Soldier Boy. The casting again pairs Ackles with showrunner Eric Kripke, who helmed “Supernatural” during its earlier seasons.

More notably, Ackles will also be returning in the “Supernatural” prequel show, appropriately named “The Winchesters.” The show will tell the story of the Winchester parents, John and Mary, and be narrated by Ackles, who will reprise his role as Dean, their oldest son, telling their story.

Ackles and his wife, Danneel Ackles, will also be executive producing the show through their company, Chaos Machine Productions. The show will be written and produced by another familiar name: “Supernatural” co-executive producer, Robbie Thompson.

The project is still in development, and no release date has yet to be announced.

Collins, 47, is still running GISHWHES, short for “The Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen.” Started in 2011, the annual competition went from under 6,000 participants to over 55,000 contestants in 2016.

Although the competition urges people to complete acts of kindness and seeks to “do good in the world,” the absurd and wacky tasks have also broken numerous Guinness World records, including the record for the longest safety pin chain in 2013.

Collins has also been promoting his newest poetry book, “Some Things I Still Can’t Tell You,” which will be released on October 12, 2021. The book is described as “both a celebration of and aspiration for a life well lived.”
