It’s no secret that the entertainment industry is competitive and Rosheuvel was advised to keep her identity in the closet to help her career.

On the April 27th episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast, Rosheuvel said the a lesbian director told her to stay closeted to further her career. Rosheuvel said the advice “blew my mind.”

“We were talking about being out and proud and representation and whether I should say I was gay in interviews,” she told host Marc Malkin. “And it was an absolute no. ‘You absolutely shouldn’t do that. It could or it would ruin your career as an actor.’”

Rosheuvel said that the advice was confusing, especially coming from someone who was already out of the closet herself. She said, “And then her being out as a female director, as a lesbian director, I was like, ‘I don’t understand this advice.’ It blew my mind.”

“Love is love,” Rosheuvel added. “It doesn’t matter whether it’s between a man and a woman when you are an actor creating a character.”

Although her character is married to King George III, the actress behind Queen Charlotte is not going to hide who she is to please others.

“I would rather lose a job than not be true to who I am. I’d rather not work in an industry that doesn’t accept me,” she added. “It just wasn’t how I was raised.”

Fortunately, Rosheuvel doesn't need to worry about her career. Earlier this month, Netflix revealed the actors and actresses behind the main cast of the “Bridgerton” spin-off series, including who will play a young Queen Charlotte.
