On Wednesday, the legendary country singer shared her reaction to Lil Nas X’s cover of her song, “Jolene,” and as expected, it was nothing short of praises!
Lil Nas X Covers ‘Jolene’
Earlier this month, the young rapper, while promoting his debut album, “Montero,” stopped by at BBC Radio 1’s “Live Lounge,” where he gave a rendition of Parton’s hit track. To no one’s surprise, Lil Nas X gave a glorious performance, pouring his everything into the song.
The performance has since garnered over 1.8 million views and was well-received by Twitter netizens after Lil Nas X uploaded a video of the rendition.
Fans praised the 22-year-old for his talent, but all everyone was waiting for was Parton’s reaction to the cover. To fans’ delight, the Queen of Country finally shared her thoughts on the performance eight days later.
Honored And Flattered
On Thursday, Parton quote tweeted Lil Nas X’s tweet and raved about his rendition, writing:
I was so excited when someone told me that Lil Nas X had done my song #Jolene. I had to find it and listen to it immediately…and it’s really good. Of course, I love him anyway.
The country singer revealed that she was surprised but felt “honored and flattered” by the cover. She concluded, hoping Lil Nas X does good for both of them and thanking him.
Parton shared the same message on Instagram but with a photo of her and Lil Nas X hugging backstage. Although the young artist hasn’t worked with Parton yet, they once came quite close to collaborating together.
In a 2019 interview with ELLE, she revealed that she was asked to work on the remix of his debut track “Old Town Road,” but she realized the song was done well with other artists, so she decided to pass on it. As we all know, the song’s remix was done with Billy Ray Cyrus.
Nevertheless, she expressed her desire to “do something later on” with the young artist. We can only cross our fingers and wait in joyful expectation!
