Renner was using a PistenBully snowcat to clear snow from around his property after a heavy snowfall when the accident happened. It was later revealed that the actor was trying to help a family member whose car was stuck in the snow.

While he was outside of the snowcat, it began to roll. In an attempt to stop the vehicle, Renner tried to jump back into the driver's seat but was run over by the snowcat, leaving him with severe injuries, including blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries.

Renner was airlifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition and underwent surgery shortly thereafter. He spent several months in the hospital and had to undergo significant rehab.

Jeremy Renner appeared on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' earlier this week, where he admitted he was "pretty banged up" due to the near-fatal accident, which left him with 38 broken bones and a leg now mostly made of metal.

"It was brutal, dude," Renner recalled of the terrifying incident, but despite almost dying and putting the pain and injuries aside, he said there have been "wonderful lessons."

"I mean, I can go on and on about what happened for the 45 minutes of being on the ice, but the real learning lessons from it -- there are so many great gifts of being tested to your limits, right? Your physical limits, your spiritual limits, emotional limits," he told Fallon. "I won't have a bad day for the rest of my life. It's impossible. There's that gift."

The Marvel star also opened up about the recovery process.

"If I didn't breathe, then I would have been gone. Forget the eyeball and all the titanium and the broken bones. It doesn't matter, right? So to think of it step by step, I think, is a really great reminder of what we all should be looking at in life," he shared on 'The Tonight Show.'

Last year, when speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the 'Hawkeye' star said, "The rest of my life is about health and wellness" and "recovery will be part of the rest of my life,"

"There's always something to do to get better, be stronger, be happier, be healthier, and that's what I look forward to," he added.

Last year, fans across the nation were worried about Jeremy Renner after the terrifying snow plow accident.

According to the accident report, obtained by CNN, "The parking brake was not engaged and would have stopped the snowcat vehicle, which runs on a track, as it started sliding sideways after the 52-year-old 'Avengers' star used it to pull his nephew’s truck out of snow."

“The Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake,” the report stated. “Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed based on our mechanical inspection that the parking brake would keep the Pistenbully from moving forward. When Renner attempted to stop or divert the Pistenbully to avoid injury to (his nephew), he was pulled under the vehicle by the track and run over.”
